Direct Long Distance
Ripoff

I received a call offering me a free long distance calling card for being a valued customer. I asked, "A valued customer of whom?" The reply she gave was "one of our marketing partners". Meanwhile, I am looking up Direct Long Distance on the internet. She proceeds to tell me that "this is at no cost, and we will never ever bill your credit card", but at the same time she told me "this is a secure transaction, and you'll never have to give me your credit card number".

She spoke very fast, and then told me the following conversation would be recorded to verify that I want the free calling card at no cost. She also told me that this was the time to say "no" to the voicemail service for $9 per month. During the recording I again asked her where she got my info, but she was very vague. "Perhaps you bought something over the internet, a HANDY STITCH, for example.". Then, she started the recording over.

Come to think of it, I did buy one of those for my wife. IDEA VILLAGE markets the Handy Stitch on TV, and that's who I bought it from. They must have given my personal information, INCLUDING credit card, to Direct Long Distance.

As I hang up the phone, I find this website, and I knew I was scammed. So, I called the customer service toll free number she gave me, and the person who answered toll me he didn't have my file, and I had to wait three business days to call this number because by then my information will be in their system.including the credit card number!
