Homestead Disposal
Don't throw your money in Homesteads dumpste

I thought my wife and I were getting a great deal by using Homestead when we were doing some home improvement on our own. We ordered a 10 yard dumpster with up to 1 ton of trash using their Summer time Sales at $325. Little did I know that I would get billed an additional $250 on my cc by Homestead without them contacting me to let me know. They claim the dumpster was 2.56 tons over weight.

The gut job we completed consisted of plaster, 3 light weight doors, trimming and the strapping for the plaster for 2 10x10 rooms. The dumpster was full, but only full because we did not have a machine to compact the trash down. The trimming and the strapping for the old plaster was not piled neatly causing the dumpster to look fuller than it really was, and the plaster was about 1/4 of the trash.

I have two good friends who work in construction for a living and rent dumpsters on every job. Both have confirmed that what we loaded into the dumpster may have gone over 1 ton. But would never have gone close to 3.56 tons. 5.56 tons is just over 7k lbs! I'm pretty confident that my wife and I did not carry 7k lbs of weight down my stairs through the living room and across the front yard. I called them and there is nothing they can do. Of course I can't prove anything because these dumpster companies don't weigh the dumpsters in front of you. After doing a little digging I heard that this is a common scheme by these dumpster rental companies. They'll usually knock some of th emoney off, but only for contractors who they know will give them more business.

I will never use homestead or recommend them to anyone looking to rent a dumpster. Your best luck is to look at a company that has an onboard scale when they pick up the dumpster, or go to the drop off when it's being put on the scale. Otherwise you will get ripped off by a place like Homestead!
