My mother and I made a contract to rent a 15 foot dumpster from Home Depot's dumpster service during September and the company failed to deliver the dumpster on time. As a result, I was unable to complete the attic clean out project, and the company refused to refund a portion of my money.
First, all consumer's should be aware that your contract is not made with Home Depot.instead, your contract is with Oakleaf Waste Management.
Second, my dumpster was only about 70% full with empty boxes, some books, clothing, and the company claims that the dumpster weighed 4.85 tons and they wanted to charge me for extra weight. It is absolutely impossible for the dumpster to have weighed 4.85 tons, because my mother and I could have not carried 4.85 tons down from the attic in a matter of hours. Also, with that weight, the items would have needed to have a relative density of 24 lbs per cubic foot.
It is important to note that the company provides a 12 hour delivery window for the dumpster and they did not deliver on time. I called during the course of the day and each time I was told that the dumpster would arrive on time. Ultimately, I was given excuses about traffic and schedules. The dumpster was supposed to arrive between 7AM and 7PM, but it did not come until 8:52 PM. This was long after the hired crew that was hired to empty out the attic was gone.
We experienced several other problems. First, the company charged us twice for the dumpster. Second, the company neglected to disclose the full price of the dumpster and called my mother back in three days to say it would be an additional $65 for the dumpster.
When I informed the company that I flew into town to do the project, and I provided my flight details, the representative told me that it was not his problem. Furthermore, he told me that I could keep the dumpster longer and complete the project. Essentially, he was telling me that they delivered the dumpster when they got a chance and I needed to work around their schedule.
Please do not use this company.
