The truth about the way Wal Mart employees are treated

I was fired by the Wal Mart corporation, but before I get into the how and why of that, let me paint you a picture of how Wal Mart actually treats their employees.

I was told I was being giving a support manager position a few months after taking the job. I did this job for over a year and was never coded in the computer nor did I receive pay for this. I was also the power equipment trainer, IE I gave license and training for people to use forklifts and electric pallet jacks and such. Now when it came to employee evaluations we were graded like this, below expectations, meets expectations, and exceeds. What you got determined your yearly raise, and meets is 40 cent extra per year. Yes thats all the majority of employees get.

Being that I wasnt getting paid for my supposed job title, I thought I could at least get an exceeds on my eval. I mean on top of running the grocery crew, training for power equipment, taking care of trucks and logging them, I had my crew taking care of the truck, every bit of backstock, having grocery zoned, helping in other departments, and still sending people home an hour or more early each night. However I was told by my supervisor they werent allowed to give exceeds on evals at the moment, and so I got 1 point counted off to keep me from getting it.

This would also happen when I was consulted about other employees evaluations, when asked about their performance I was told I had to give a reason for the to get a meets, despite if I thought they deserved an exceeds.

I worked at location 1036 in Forest City North Carolina and in the 5 years I worked for the company I head management using profanity towards employees, I heard racial jokes made. Sexist jokes were made by management. Nothing was done as it was supposed to be. Logs were signed off on without being checked. We had a huge problem with mice. Employees told to come back early from 15 minute breaks, as well as lunch. Employees told if they didnt take break by this time they didnt get one. I saw employees favored, temperatures made up without being taken on frozen trucks. I saw employee suddenly get fired after contacting home office with complaints of the way they were treated.

The list goes on and on of violated policies and mis-treatment. Bluntly put for the rate of pay most received they were over worked. Oh and one more tidbit, many cases where employees were told they could not leave until told and would work over, and then later in the week were told they had to leave early to avoid overtime. Needless to say Wal Mart is a crappy place to work.

Now on to my being fired. We had several managers who were having health issues. One was fired shortly before me. He was told by his supervisor to fill out his national priority reports by using one report for the entire week. He was told by his manager to break a policy, and upon doing so was fired for doing so.

As for me. The policy on managers spending time with employees outside of work is basically that it is fine as long as they are not involved in a relationship. There were even managers that had pictures of employees at their houses on their desks at work. Well one of the assistant managers and I were friends. She worked 1st and 2nd shifts and I worked 3rd. So she would babysit for me because she knew I was having a hard time as I just got full time custody of my daughter.

She had a stroke earlier in the year and another one in may. She was out a few weeks and the day she came back they told her she was being investigated for having a romantic relationship with an employee (me) which was not the case at all. A week later we were both terminated for having a relationship we were not. When asked for proof she was told we were seen hugging in another Wal Mart. When I asked I was told they had video footage of this event which I knew wasnt true. So I asked to see this footage and I was told I could not see it because it was Wal Mart Property.

Both her and the other manager believe they were fired because they were considered insurance risks. I got caught in the crossfire. There is also a 3rd manager at the store with health problems that is worried she will be the next.

Now right after this another female manager and male employee admitted to sleeping with each other. This of course by policy is in fact a termination for both parties. So you have the same scenario essentially as mine, with the fact that I had no romantic relationship with the manager who babysitting for me, and these two did.in this case the manager was fired, but the male employee was not. Apparently because he had only been with the company a few months. This is despite the fact that you have what are called CBLS you have to complete when starting with Wal Mart. These are basically computer tests where they tell you all about procedure and policy and then answer a series of questions on it. You have to score a certain percent to pass the test. Basically you know right away what you can and cant do as these are clearly explained and simply explained. Yet this guy was treated as if he didnt know the policy that management cant see hourly associates after working there 3 months. They make a big deal about that particular policy when hired. Its not something you forget.

But the most ironic piece of the puzzle is that my supervisor and the man who terminated me Gene Talyor was an assistant manager whom had a relationship with an hourly associate only when they decided to marry did they make it known and request to work at different locations. Now he is a co-manager. So this is basically a matter that this store does whatever it pleases.

So I do have a few questions like, can they withhold supposed video footage of me in my own personal time from me? Basically I wonder what can be done about this?
