Hair restoration rip off, and bad styling/cutting technique

I purchased a hair restoration piece from Bill at Hair Raisers, Inc.in Monroeville, PA in January for $1,000.00.

The first time I saw the piece, which Bill assured me would match my hair color and texture, I was disappointed that it matched neither my color, nor texture, but Bill said it wouldn't matter once he cut and styled it to "blend in" with my own hair.

Bill did not ask me what style I wanted, prior to cutting the piece.

During my first appointment, Bill cut and chopped the piece into layers that I did not ask for, but he insisted that it had to be "styled" this way in order to look "natural". The style was not what I wanted or asked for, and it did not look natural or believable. When I told him I thought it looked "wiggy", he said I just wasn't used to it yet and sent me home and told me to get used to it then come back for a re-style.

I returned 6 weeks later and told him that I had not worn and could not wear this piece because it had been ruined by him cutting it too short, and he insisted on cutting more hair to "fix" it. After cutting and styling some more, the piece looked even worse, and again Bill said I needed to get used to it, and sent me home to try and "get used to it" again, and told me to come back for a restyle in a few weeks.

I returned a third time and told him I still hadn't worn the piece and could not/would not be wearing it, but again he insisted that I was just not used to it and that I should go home and try to wear it again. He "thinned it out" some more and sent me home, but I am still unable to wear this choppy crop of hair.

I called him today (June 2) and told him the piece is terrible and I cannot wear it and requested a refund and he said that he refuses to give a refund after this much time has passed! The only reason this much time has passed is because he kept insisting on chopping up this piece more and more and sending me back home, which I assume was his way of dragging the process out longer, then say too much time has passed for a refund.

I did not sign anything or receive any policy that said he would not accept a return after so much time. He is making up the rules as he goes along, and I am stuck with a $1,000.00 hair piece that I cannot wear.

This is truly a rip off, and the styling techniques at this salon are antiquated and just plain bad. I have taken this piece to other stylists in the meantime to see if they could do anything with it and they agreed that it was ruined by the original cutting and chopping that Bill had done.

The hair piece is 100% human hair but the look that Bill promised, which was natural and "no one will ever know you're wearing a piece" wasn't even close to being achieved. This piece looked like a choppy crop of baby doll hair sitting on top of my head, over my own hair. It was very "wiggy" and phony looking, did not match my hair color or texture as Bill promised it would, and the way he chopped and cut it up in a style that I would never wear made it even worse.

This piece was unwearable from the first time he cut and styled it and although I didn't think it could get worse, it did with ever visit to his salon. Unless I get a refund, I am out $1,000.00 not counting all of the pricey hair products he sold me for the hair piece, AND his styling fee every time I visited!

Not only did Bill refuse to refund any of my money, he was very rude and belligerent when I asked for a refund, and began insulting me, saying "You must really enjoy going bald" and making other mean comments, then he clearly stated that he had no intention of refunding all or any of my money and would not take a return.

After we hung up, my phone rang a few minutes later and it was Bill's wife, calling to yell and insult me some more. She too was very rude and mean, which was quite a contrast to the smile she had on her face when I was handing her a check to pay for this hair piece.

I had a terrible experience with these people and would not recommend them to anyone. I hope by posting this complaint, I save someone else from being a victim.

If anyone else has had this experience with Hair Raisers in Monroeville, I would love to hear from you.
