Late Payment Penalty on credit card bill

I have been a regular customer of Sears for years. We have bought many appliances and other items there. I have never made a payment on my credit card late.

The payment date due was changed on my charge account from the 18th of each month to the 8th of each month. I was not notified of this change.
On my last bill, I was charged a $39.00 late fee because it paid my bill after the 8th. Had I known of the change, I would have paid it earlier.

I visited the Tuscaloosa AL store and talked with a store clerk. I was unable to find the store manager to talk to her. I got no satisfaction. The clerk was no help - he would not remove the late fee.

This is the first time this has ever happened to me. I pay my bills on time IF I know what the DUE DATE is. How can a company do this?
