In the middle of Feb. I went to the website of Yen Plus comic magazine and I bought a one-year subscription for, give or take a few cents, $50. It's bad economic times right now, and I hate to see another comic book-related business bite the dust, be it a publisher or a comic shop. Yen Plus is a publisher, and the imprint is owned by Hachette Book Group USA, which was formerly part of Time Warner.
So, I'm thinking, here's a big company that has publishing experience, and maybe, just maybe, if I support them by buying a one-year subscription to read and collect, and spread the word of this magazine being offered as such, though at a high price, I might, just might be able to keep this magazine from going under or disappearing. Yeah, well, after five or six weeks pass, a friend of mine is talking about Japanese comics in America, and Yen Plus comes up. We scour Pahrump and Las Vegas looking for an issue, and we can't find a single issue anywhere. Has the magazine been cancelled? Haitus? What? Also, I only have around 60 to dispute the charge with my bank. That's, give or take, eight weeks.
Now, I can understand taking six to eight weeks to process something I mailed via USPS, but I used the website, hence computers are automated and supposed to just get the service started faster. This hasn't happened. So I have sent maybe three or four e-mails, all exactly the same, all polite in tone and asking what has happened to my subscription. My response?
Not one damned response!
Now, that's just bad customer service. So I sent a nasty e-mail with highlights and bolding to maybe, just maybe, get my question answered. Do I like to resort to playground tactics? Nope. But sometimes, it's the only way the current generation in their 30s can relate to something, because they, themselves, are no older than 12 inside their heads. Anyways, I'm awaiting the result of that. And something else I did, which I also don't like to do, it I went to the website's blog postings and wrote about me being ripped off by them, too. I posted the same comment on perhaps eight months or so postings of blog entries. Do I like to do that? Again, no, but I want my question answered. I asked, adult-like, a very simple question.instead, I GET NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER!
Bottom line is stay away from Yen Plus magazine and anything published by Hatchett, since they're the owners of the imprint. They don't care about customer service, only stealing your money for subscriptions and never responding afterwards.
