I called about their $49.99 broadband, phone, and unlimited long distance to find out what the TOTAL, with all taxes, fees, etc. Would be b4 I switched ISPs, and was told with the USF, 911 fee etc., it would be $64.32. That's 28% more than $49.99, but those extra taxes and fees are ones I was already paying with just regular phone service.
So my first bill comes, and there are 2 bold categories on the front page. First, 'Local' for $64.32; and 2nd, 'Long distance' for $4.75! Wtf! I had been using ECG for my LD with no monthly fee, or minimum, and 3.5 cents/min - rarely going over $5, so my 'free' long distance costs me the same, or more, as b4, since some months I wouldn't make any LD calls, but now I pay $4.75/mo regardless.
I call and they say 'sorry you were misinformed', lied to I say, but there's a $2.93 "interstate service fee", and an 'assumed' LD value of $15, both of which are taxed at 6%. WTF again! Taxed an an assumed value? And how can they advertise $49.99 when there's a mandatory monthly fee of $4.75 tacked on, most of which is their own bogus interstate service fee???
It's clearly false advertising in their TV, newspaper, and internet ads. Not to mention I was lied to when I specifically asked them what the total charges would be.
