Dignity Memorial, Service Corporation International They paid by local government to help families in need and they DISCRIMINATED against a Native American Army veteran

Maybe the taxpayers of the city of austin and travis county would like to know that one funeral home they have on retainer to help poor families where death comes suddenly are not helping anyone and must be pocketing the money!

Seems like they discriminated against a us army veteran who was native american and died in the line of duty~ they refused to help and hung up on me when i tried to discuss funeral arrangements.

I took the word of the social worker and the chaplain who were on duty at brackenridge - seton university hospital emergency room saturday night, march 29.

My cousin died in the line of duty 28 March at approximately 9 P.M. Death was instantaneous. His vehicle was totaled.

The EMS transported him to Seton-Brackenridge University Hospital where they have some of the best trauma team members in Texas.

They worked on him for 45 minutes but they could not restart his heart. He was clinically dead when they brought him in.

Because he was a private security patrol officer, he had no health insurance and no funeral insurance. I understand that he had a life insurance policy but it is probably one that the employer will keep all the money like the policies that Walmart is alleged to have on their employees.

We were attempting to put something together so he would have a good burial service.

While we were at the hospital, we received a presentation from a social worker on the wonderful grief support they provide for the relatives of patients who died in the emergency Room. She also gave me the list of funeral homes who would work with you when death comes unexpectedly.

It seems that Travis County, Texas and possibly the city of Austin, TX will pay a funeral home a retainer to work with what they call "hardship assistance" which means they will set up a payment plan and work with you. All of the funeral homes in town rotate every month and for March, the funeral home to handle this business was Cook Walden Funeral Homes location at the North Lamar location; 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin - (512) 454-5611.

I called them and the lady who answered the phone was VERY courteous UNTIL she learned that my cousin was Cherokee and we were requesting hardship services until we got enough money together to pay for a funeral.
Also, that he was a US VETERAN and possibly had burial benefits and SHE SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN IN MY EAR.

I spoke to her politely, courteously and told them that he had died suddenly and we would need time to get information...

She slams the phone down. Hard.

I couldn't believe that she had done this.

I then tried to contact the hospital chaplain's office to see what the problem was and the operator also hung up on me. All i wanted to do was talk to the chaplain or the social worker who are suppose to provide you with all of this grief support and counseling and find out why the funeral home refused to assist when they are supposedly taking money from the county and the city to do so until we can make arrangements!

The north lamar location of austin, texas has no respect for native american military veterans.

Fortunately, I was able to contact the same funeral home &OUT OF AUSTIN, TEXAS who made my father's final arrangements. He has found assistance for us that we can pay for.

Even worse, I did not want to have my cousin autopsied but State law says that when someone dies without an attending physician present it has to be done. I have seen about 100 of these and what they do to a deceased person is too graphic to describe here.

I began getting non-stop calls from these GHOULS wanting me to part him out. I dont' mind giving body parts to save a life but they were extremely evasive —at least by my way of thinking whether or not they would actually use the body parts to save a life or "for RESEARCH." After all of THAT, he would resemble ground hamburger meat.

No!

They kept calling and calling and calling and calling and calling calling... Two ghouls donation organizations from hell.

You know they are going to make huge profits from his body parts —the least they could do would be to help us with the funeral. But they are about cutting the deceased up and discarding them like road kill — leaving us suffering and struggling how to pay the funeral expenses all alone. No grief support, nothing. Just hit and git and carve him up.

I want a guarantee he will save someone's life — otherwise, not a cell do they take!

Like there is going to be anything left after a typical autopsy anyway. He has been sliced enough.

Please leave me and my family alone and respect our grief!

I have seen complaints about Service Corporation International here on the complaint and IF THIS is how their funeral services do business —then AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY DISCRIMINATE!
THEY ONLY WANT YUPPIE BUSINESS HERE.

And it seems to me if they are being paid retainers by the local governmental agencies to assist families who cannot pay it all up front. Then there is a rip off happening here?

I invite representatives of the cook walden location at north lamar in austin, texas and the service corporation international to respond to me because i am rather unhappy at the rudeness, the complete heartlessness, arrogance, and refusal to speak with us even though we had grounds to negotiate.

This woman was horrible and an example of the new yuppie funeral service worker.

And there is a place in hell for people who treat grieving people like this!
