On a Sunday morning we were called that my father in law had died and were told we needed to have a funeral home pick his body up. He was only at the home for about 10 hours and what the home told us did not make since.
I called Sunset Funeral home and asked them to pick his body up. I also asked that he not be embalmed until we found out what really happened. Later that day the family went to the funeral home to try and plan his funeral.
We asked if we could get an autopsy done, and they said no one in San Antonio did autopsies. He did say that Travis County did do autopsy's but cost about $2000.00 plus transportation up there and back. We agree but also told the funeral director that we did not want the nursing home to know that there was an autopsy.
We also requested 3 copies of the death certificates for Insurance policies and Government retirement benefits. Four days later he was buried.
The death certificates never came. The doctor for the nursing home would not sign the death certificate with a cause. Therefore without a death certificate the insurance company would not pay. The funeral home would not be paid either.
The funeral director called and wanted payment. I told him it was the doctor at the Nursing home fault. When I told him he needed to contact the doctor who did not give cause of death, he was mad. I also told him that he could not mention that there was an autopsy done. If he did I would sue.
He contacted the doctor, told her that there was an autopsy and had the doctor request under the freedom of information act a copy of the autopsy WE paid for. This gave the doctor a cause of death which she did not know of.
If I did not have my mother, father, infant brother and grand mother buried there, I would stay away from this place. The funeral director betrayed our trust and will not have any other business from my family.
