I received a call from Susan who claimed she was calling from AT&T and that AT&T was switching their long distance provider from World Com and if I wanted to continue receiving a single bill and receive a discounted rate then she needed to verify that I wanted to switch to NSBI. The caller ID came up as WITHHELD so I asked her specifically if she was calling from AT&T and she said yes. She also indicated that I should have received two notices in the mail notifying me of this change.
Feeling uncomfortable, I asked her if I could call AT&T later today to complete this change. She said No, that it was her department specifically that needs to make this change prior to Wednesday (this was Monday). I told her that I never received any flyers in the mail and that I needed to verify this information before I would go though the confirmation process with her. She said she'd call me back in an hour.
I looked up NSBI online and called the number listed on their website. The lady who answered, May, indicated that they hire 3rd party businesses to solicit new customers, but this practice was not acceptable. She wanted information about the person who called me but I couldn't give her any info since 'Susan' didn't call me back. She seemed genuinely concerned and apologize for the inconvenience.
