On Monday, June 1 I received a phone call for my husband that stated he had applied for a cash advance loan on Saturday and they needed to verify his information in order to approve the application. I told them they needed to call back when he was home and told them what time to call. I asked my husband about it and he said he never applied for any loans and he was at work that day anyway. They called back 3 times on Tuesday. The number comes up as "Novatel" from a 210-249-0540 telephone number and when you call it back, all it tells you is that the voice mail box is full.
When the first call came through I told the man on the phone (who is foreign of course) that my husband did NOT apply for a cash advance and asked them how they got our number. He claimed this time to be from "United Cash Loans" and said that he had applied at one of their affiliate sites. I once again told them he DID NOT apply and asked for a customer service number for their company. He said they were from the "Processing Department" and didn't have a number I could call back. I told him that we don't accept telemarketer calls (which I assumed this was) and that I wanted our number removed and I hung up on him. I didn't answer the second call from the same number.
At 930 pm the phone rang and I answered it before I looked at the caller ID. Once again, United Lending Corporation. Fed up at this point, and pissed that they were calling so late, I asked to speak to a supervisor. I got a guy named "Matthew" and I'm pretty sure his name isn't Matthew. He told me I'd be thrilled to know that we've been pre-approved for the cash loan we applied for.
After going through the whole we didn't apply for any loan song and dance, he informs me that we did in fact apply on a web site. When I asked him which web site, he couldn't provide me with that information. Nor could he give me a number in which I could call to get his company. He told me that they were from the "Processing Department" and that once I verified the information, a customer service representative in my state would call me to let me know how much we were approved for. I told him I wanted our phone number removed from the list and then asked him for their legal department so I could have them investigated for fraud... He hung up on me.
Thinking that was the last of the calls, I was surprised to see Novatel on my caller ID again when the phone rang. I asked this person for what web sites we supposedly applied on and was given the run around and was told it could have been a number of sites including "Cash Mutual"... Nothing came up on Google for Cash Mutual. I asked to speak to a supervisor once again. I was given a supervisor and asked him where they were located. He told me they were in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (even though the area code they're calling from is San Antonio Texas) and told me that it was a computer dialer and that's why it came up with that phone number. This supervisor wouldn't give me a customer service number or website URL either.
I googled United Lending Corporation on Tuesday and found a site that said Oklahoma City, Oklahoma but after calling Tuesday and today, the number just rings and rings and rings and there's no voice mail or anyone that answers. I asked the supervisor how he got our information and after telling me we applied for a cash advance, and I told him once again we did not, I told him that they were probably phishing information or buying it from other companies. I told him he had 5 seconds to get me a customer service number or I was contacting an attorney. He put me on hold long enough to disconnect the call. We'll see if they call again tomorrow.
I will continue to try to find out who "United Lending Corporation" or "United Cash Loans" are since I've only found one website so far and United Cash Loans claims they have no affiliation with this company but I found their 800 number on complaint. This aggrivates me because they don't speak clear enough English for me to understand them and they are relentless in trying to get information from me. I am NOT giving them any information at all and I'm going to file a complaint with the BBB and whoever will listen. Be aware of this scam... If we applied for a cash advance, they'd already have our information and wouldn't need to verify anything.
