It started when I took advantage of a promotion to purchase a Tivo box for my current Directv account. They tell you that you are buying it and it will only cost $99.00 for additional tivo box. I beleived that I was purchasing the Tivo boxes because the sales rep said I would own it. A year passes and I have to move out of the country for work. Since it is Tivo I took the boxes with me so I can watch my favorite recording. On the phone I was told I would own the boxes. I go to terminate my service and then they remind me that I was leasing the boxes and have no right to keep them. Rip off #1. I was out of the country at this time, so I ship them back. To terminate my account I am told I owe $314.00 and I need to return the boxes. I pay them and ship the Tivo boxes back to them. They get to boxes with no damages. About 3 months later they send me a check for $174.99 at my US address. I have no idea it is coming so I get the check on a return visit. When I get the check it is already voided (90 days). I call them up and ask them to issue me another one. Seems fair right. They say no, the only way I can get my money back is if I open a new account and use that $174.99 as credit. Rip off #2. After about 1 1/2 hours of arguing and explaining the concept of theft to the CSR I am granted my wish to speak with a supervisor. He very reluctantly informed me that he was notifying the finance department to issue me another check. He told me his name was "Corky" and said that they do no give last names. He said his ID # was 100133396. I asked for every type of confirmation that I possible could to confirm that he was actualy instructing the finance department to re-issue that check. They offered me nothing in the form of any confirmation that he was actually doing what he said he was doing. I am currently awaiting that check. I assume that everything from his name to the ID# was totally fake to just get me off the phone. So I sit and wait.
