AT&T And Their U-Verse Product
Deceptive door-to-door sales tactics, Bait and switch (while you are standing there), Ignores NO SOLITICING SIGN, Impossible to cancel, RUDE

I live in San Antonio, Texas and had a very bad experience of being slammed/ordering things I NEVER AGREED TO ORDER.

I have NEVER bought anything from a door-to-door salesperson. I have a large "NO SOLICITING" sign on my front gate.

However, on Saturday, August 10,2 men came to my door and knocked. I answered and they told me they were "upgrading the wiring" and were scheduling appointments to install fiber optic wiring in my neighborhood next week... No obligation.

As salesman #1 was telling me what this was all about, Salesman #2 takes out a cell phone and starts to call AT&T. I just thought he was making a call about something else... Next thing I know he's READING MY NAME AND ADDRESS (from the printout of leads he had) into the phone and telling them I want the $99/month U-Verse plan.

Long story short, they set up the whole thing and made me an appointment for the following Thursday. As soon as they left, I tried to call the number at the bottom of the paperwork left with me to cancel the appointment. No one is available to help me until MONDAY! I only get a recorded message.

On Monday morning at 9 am I call AT&T and ask to cancel the U-Verse appointment. I realize now I never heard the famous "This call is being recorded in order to improve our customer service" or the like does not seem to be used at AT&T. This is NOT a surprise because I am sure if the person I spoke to was being recorded he would have never been so rude.

I called and politely asked to cancel the U-Verse appointment. I was then told how much I would love it and that was I sure. I said, yes, I'm sure. After being REPEATEDLY badgered into buying other services with AT&T, and after getting comments like "So, you don't want to save money? Most people want to save money..." and other rude and harassing comments, I was told by the customer NO-service rep (identifying himself as Sean) that my regular land line service was scheduled to be turned off on Thursday.

I asked that they please turn it back on or don't shut it off in the first place! Sean, the representative, said "We didn't place that order. Did you order phone service through another company?" I said, "Uh, no. I have only dealt with you so it was obviously AT&T who canceled my land line!" He kept saying, no, we didn't do that and we can't turn it back on... And repeatedly insulted me. When I asked "Can AT&T just cancel the order to turn it off?" he replied "Who do you think you're talking to?" twice. Yes, I knew I was speaking with ATT, I just wanted to know if THE COMPANY can help me since they are the ones who got me in this position. After he kept telling me that it was a 3rd party who canceled my land line I gave up and asked for his supervisor.

The supervisor, Betty, was able to help. She told me that as soon as the U-Verse order was canceled in their computer, my line would not be shut off. I told her that Sean did not seem to know that. I asked her if he could please tell him so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. She never would answer that. She also did NOT apologize to me when I said how insulting and rude he was and how I kept getting pressured to get AT&T wireless, or just their DSL, or whatever, when I had only called to cancel my U-Verse appointment and then needed to move on with my day. It was truly unbearable. I was literally in tears by the time the phone call was over. Betty seemed not to care.

I urge everyone to go to You Tube and search for the AT&T U-Verse Sales videos. I found them from another site and it's unreal that they seem to be PROUD of these deceptive practices!

In case clarification is needed... DECEPTIVE SALES because the men came to my door like there was something being wired on my street and that I would "see their trucks around" doing the wiring "next week." As one man started explaining the U-verse plans I should "think about" the other one borrowed the first one's phone and started calling in my "order." I was so flabbergasted I thought, oh well, I can always cancel it.

More inappropriateness: While the first guy was waiting for the second guy to sign me up he told me about how the "Chinese" woman at the gas station was charging him for ice and then did a very inappropriate voice imitation of the Asian woman. I felt like I didn't have the power (as a woman in her early 30s) to start up a fight about racism on my front porch with a large sweaty pair of older men. I won't go into the racist comments, the sleaze-factor, the condescending "you know, so you can watch Lifetime movies..." comments, or other uncomfortable moments here. AT&T, however, will know all about them in my letter. I just think the rest of the world should know this as well.

Luckily, the head idiot of the pair of sleazy door-to-door salesman gave me his card in a failed attempt to pick me up or something. Disgusting. However, I now have his card so AT&T will know EXACTLY who came to my door and exactly the way I was treated. (The other guy's name was on my paperwork.) I was basically SLAMMED in person and I don't appreciate it. If I didn't need my landline for my alarm system I would get rid of it and then AT&T would have ZERO of my business.
