So basically, I've been working with this company off and on, since about 2004. They are an outsourcers organization that lets larger companies place their operating services through them in various small towns.
I have a lot of stuff that I could talk about in regards to this place, however I will only mention the one that is the most rampant in my mind.
It's been at least 2-4 months ago that this happend.in order to boost the morale of the associates that worked at our call center, Aegis decided that they would initiate various forms of "fun" activity for the associates. One of these activities was called "Pie in the face Day". Basically people would put in who they wanted to get a pie in the face, and they would tally up the votes, and then you would pay a donation to hit somebody with a pie.
So on their website they had a poll up that you could write people's names in. It was later told to us, after the fact, that only supervisors, team leads, and higher ups could be voted in. At the time, however we were unaware of this and the group of associates I interact with the most decided we would place our votes on a friend of ours.
Due to the way the system was set up, you could go in and vote numerous times without any limits to it, which was what everyone was doing. Also, after a while various associates as a good humored notion, began to add phrases and nicknames with the people they voted with as well. I also did the same thing, thinking logically that if no one else is getting in trouble for it, I couldn't either.
One of the phrases I put was "philange facilitate your tongue against something beneficial", which basically means finger licking good. Mind you that I understand it was kind of a ignorant phrase that was pointless to write, however the accusation I got was completely wrong.
The IT of our call center grabs me and tells me I need to go see the head of the Human Resources Dept.
When I get in, they begin to ask me if I put what I had stated earlier in the voting system. I explain that I did, and when I do they begin to tell me what it's highly offensive and that I have no consideration for anyone else's feelings, especially the person I had written it about. They proceed to ask me if I even care how he felt. I explain to them that he was sitting next to me when I did it and that he didn't care.
They then ask me if I was someone else would I find it offensive. When I say nothing, the IT person tells me that I must think that they're right because I'm not saying anything, to which I respond that I'm not saying anything because I'm afraid if I do that I could lose my job.
I proceed to tell them, that if it was offensive that I didn't intend it to be that way, nor did I see it that way. To which they respond that if I want to second guess everything they say, then maybe this is not the place for me to work at, basically validating my fear of losing my job over what I said.
At the end of the conversation, the H.R. Person asks me what race my friend is, to which I reply that he is caucausian. The H.R. Person then tells me that if he was any other race I would be fired on the spot.
What angered me about this situation, was that I was not the only one who was engaging in this actions, and if I did do something offensive that no one would've came to me and asked me about what I had put. Also, the fact that I'm supposed to be defending myself and explaining to myself, and being threatened with termination when I do, and basically being told that I was wrong about everything that I was saying, even in regards to things I should know.
However, the biggest issue is the subliminal quirp at the end in regards to the racial status of my friend. Throughout the whole conversation there had not been one even sliver of correllation to race of any sort, unless you correllate KFC with racism, which I didn't, but they seem to have. I don't know anything really about this, but if I'm not correct that is a form of slander in a way. Hard to tell, I just wanted to get this off my chest and to let the world see what sort of things go on.
