I received advertising for their product in mail almost daily. Due to the fact I was unhappy with my present TV Cable service, I called the 800 number and discussed the possibilities of using their Direct TV System. All sounded great so I placed my order.
When installer showed up as scheduled, I showed him the areas I needed service and had to leave. My instructions to Direct TV and to the installer was I needed HD with DVR and had 4 total locations. My son was left at site while installation was performed.
During the phone conversation of which I placed my order, I was given a choice of either HD or DVR free as a promotional Item. I asked if it mattered if I took both and it was explained I would get one installed free of charge.
I recieved no other info other than it didn't matter which I chose, I chose HD. Upon receipt of my first billing, there was a charge of $99.00 for DVR Upgrade. I was thinking it was a mistake and called in to get clarification.
The way it was explained to me was if I had taken the DVR instead of the H.D. There would NOT have been any extra charge. I would have saved $99.00.
When I asked if this could be reversed, I was informed It couldn't because it was an DVR Upgrade. I asked how it could be considered an Upgrade since it was a new service, not an add on to existing service. I was then told the original work order did not have a DVR on the order, and was added by the installer to the order. This made it an upgrade.
Since I know what I originally ordered was what I recieved and have no Idea how the work order was written, this item was considered an upgrade to the order. Also if it had been explained to me the choice of the HD over the DVR would cost me an additional $99.00 more for the very same service would have definitely made a different choice.
The Direct TV Service is Great. Much better than previous Service we had. For this reason I'm filing this report hoping to educate others and maybe get Direct TV to make Stronger Points in their selling presentations, leaving less room for some hungry installer to increase work order to the tune of $99.00
