My female Labrador Retriever was taken in to Newton Animal Emergency for an emergency C section after whelping one live pup at home. The next pup was obviously stuck and without haste, we took her to this clinic as my regular vet was on vacation and it was a weekend as well.
I am a breeder and this was a valuable bitch bred to an amer/can Ch stud dog.
Not only did they make us wait several hours - all the while my bitch in agony with contractions trying to pass a huge, breech puppy, but they also would not allow me to assist in reviving pups, as is normal practice with any other vet I have used for sections over the years.
Many hours later, in the waiting room, I was presented with the news that all 9 of my pups were dead, but were however, initiallyborn with heartbeats.
This is NOT normal, unless something goes very wrong at the vets.
I later learned that the incorrect anesthetic was used in an excess amount.
My girl took over 6 hours to wake up, she should have been up in one hour.
I just want to let everyone know about this so that maybe it can be avoided for someone else.
The clinic has been trying to sue me for "payment for their services" now since the incident. I have refused to pay to date.
I would have loved to counter sue, however fianances do not allow me to do so.
In losing this litter, I essentially lost over $9,000 in what the puppies would have sold for.
I also lost the use of my bitch, as her uterus was so damaged that she could never get pregnant again. She was young, healthy and this was only her 2nd litter.
