Unfair Billing Practices Unfair Billing ripoff

Vonage will not allow cancellation on-line because they want to spend 15 minutes on the phone convincing you not to cancel. You cannot remove your billing information to stop them from billing you. Once they bill you, you cannot get a refund, even if you cancel service.

After 16 months of uneven, unreliable service, I tried to cancel Vonage by email since there was no option on their web site. I was told to call in. Since it was a Saturday, their telephone billing department was closed. I then tried to delete my billing information from their web site, but the site does not allow deleting information unless you enter a valid alternative.

When I called them to cancel, I waited 10 minutes on hold to speak to a representative who then spent 15 minutes telling me all the reasons I shouldn't cancel, including offering free service! I finally got him to cancel service, but he would not issue a refund. He referred my call to another department where I was told that Vonage will not issue refunds once the billing has been done.

Since I requested the cancellation prior to billing, but was unable to cancel because Vonage was closed, I don't see any reason that I should pay their fees.

I have filed a complaint against Vonage with the BBB and am planning on filing a complaint with the Arizona Attorney general.

I would never recommend Vonage service to anyone since there are less expensive, higher quality alternatives who do not rip off consumers.
