Vonage
Vonage won't let me Cancel their service, yet they still want my money!

I tried Vonage on the advice of a friend. I ordered their services online using my credit card. It is extremely easy to sign up for their services. I wanted to get started right away so I paid extra for their 2-Day Delivery Service. I didn't receive the modem until 7 days later. This was a huge Red Flag in my book! I haven't even begun to use their service yet and I have already been hustled on the shipping charges!

After a week or so I realized that I did not need this service. Vonage delivered as advertised, I just didn't need their service anymore. Before my next due date I called Vonage to cancel their service. When you call Vonage they answer the phone fairly quickly, however when you tell them you want to cancel they try to convince you every which way possible not to cancel your service with them. After refusing all their sales pitches to stay, Vonage then transfered me to their "Cancellation Department". I was on hold 30 minutes; nobody ever answered the phone.

I called again later that day and went through the same procedure. This time I waited on hold for 60 minutes; nobody ever answered the phone. I don't even know if Vonage actually has a "Cancellation Department", or if this is part of their scam to prevent people from cancelling service with Vonage. It sure is easy to sign up with Vonage, however it is next to impossible to cancel service with them.

I was left with no choice but to cancel my credit card to prevent Vonage from making unauthorized charges on my account. Sure enough Vonage tried to charge my credit card and sent me a nice email asking me to give them another credit card number so they could continue to rip me off! Of course the email is from a "do-not reply" address so I can not contact Vonage by email.

It is clear to me now that Vonage's business model is to prevent people from cancelling their service and to keep charging them for service they never asked for or use. I am not sure how this will end up, however I am prepared to fight Vonage on this all the way until the bitter end!
