My long distance service was NEW ACCESS through local carrier AT&T. Just got a new bill with an extra $200 added. NEW ACCESS no longer is listed as long distance provider. We had changed our number and told AT&T to be sure NOT to change anything on our account and to be sure that we kept the same long distance provider.

Now we are told by NEW ACCESS that since we changed our phone number (same house) that we would be considered a "new account" and that they no longer take new accounts in our area. We later learned that QWEST (the new provider) apparently owns NEW ACCESS.By signing us up to NEW ACCESS at a decent rate we later get switched without our permission to QWEST and are told they are one in the same and that NEW ACCESS can no longer offer their services. We are stuck with a billing rate and plan that we'd never agreed to or wanted.

This is a method of "slamming" I've not seen before.

We'll be changing our complete phone service to VONAGE in the next week. Complaints have already been filed with the FCC.
