My husband and I went to Aaron's to rent-to-own a laptop. We found a used one, so we decided to try to get it. We put down the first month's rent of about $111. You have to have 3 references. All but one person was not going to give us a reference. Some girl from Aaron's called me and told me I needed another reference or I would have to bring back the laptop. So I brought back the laptop.
My mom was going to buy us one for a lot less than what they were asking. It was about $2000 for a used laptop, when she was going to pay $600 for a brand new one and we would pay her back. The guy told me he would talk to the accountant to see how much of a refund I would get back. I waited a week and called to ask about my money. He told me I could not have my money back because we took the laptop out of the store.
I told my mom what he said, and she went up to the store with a recorder and recorded the whole conversation with the guy. Basically, he told my mom the only reason we were able to leave with the computer before the application was checked was because he knows my husband's mom. So we were not going to get any money back. My mom asked the guy if they tell their customers that if they decide to bring back their stuff early, they won't get a refund of the remaining money they paid for the month. He said, "We don't see the need to." He also said I could go get the laptop for a month or use it for store credit.
I sure don't want or need a laptop now, nor do I ever want to buy, rent or lease anything from that company. It's nice to know I wasted $111.
