The name Conn's fits them to a tee! Ripoff

After paying off a washer/dryer with Conn's this past May, without ever paying late or mssing a payment, my husband and I decided to buy a refrigerator for our new home.

After all, Conn's had sent me numerous mailings telling me what a great customer I was, and luring me with all kinds of no interest sales deals.

When I bought the washer/dryer with Conn's in May I had no previous credit with them, and yet, they gave me a one year, no interest deal. Great. I was pleased, and they delivered the appliances the next day with no problem.

This time however, they wanted paycheck stubs, 3 references and my DNA in order for me to purchase an $800.00 refrigerator! It was easier to qualify for the home we just bought! They said it was because my address was changing. I explained that we just bought a home - only 5 minutes from where we live now, and I even provided the name and number of our mortgage company.

We wasted all day Monday going back and forth to the store in Euless Texas, while the Manager tried to get through to corporate. We had to have the phone company fax them our new number to prove we were really moving - which we did, and they still took 2 hours to get back with us!

I spoke with 3 different people at corporate. The first lady told me that they even put her through this process, and "that the folks from Katrina and Rita scammed the company, so everyone has to suffer". The second employee I spoke with told me told me "this company sucks, and that's why I am outta here soon", and the chatty credit rep told me that the President of the company "is very careful about who he extends credit to." He offered me the insulting deal of 20% down and 18% finance charges.

Hey Nimrod! You already extended me credit last year, and I paid my purchase off in a timely manner!

I am so incensed by this situation that I have contacted a consumer advocacy group, an attorney and a friend who works for a Dallas television station. He thinks the recent AOL story pales in comparison to this. After reading all the Conn's stories on this site, I definitely agree!

There is power in numbers. If a bunch of us get together, we can be heard. Conn's may not care about its' consumers, but when it begins affecting their bottom line financially, they will care a lot!

I e-mailed the CEO this morning, and informed him of my plans to let everyone know that Conn's does not care about cutomers.in intend to keep that promise, and will welcome anyone else who wants to do the same.
