I am disabled on a low fixed income, I had looked everywhere for a Talking Caller ID Phone, because of my disabilities. The phone company had the only one that was made at the time by Panasonic at over $100.00 which I could not afford. I received a JC Penney Christmas 2005 Big Gift Book catalog and on page ten it advertised a "Lcd Touch-Screen phone with Talking Caller Id" at $19.99 Not once but three times it said Talking Caller Id.."means no more running to the phone to see who's calling".
I ordered the phone with a JC Penney credit card and had it delivered to my home. I thought it strange before opening it because it was a plain brown box that was beat up, not in an orginal box, after opening it, the only thing in the box was a phone, no instruction manual, no warranty, not even a name brand or serial number nothing in the box or on the phone. It looked exactly like the phones I have seen in most of the local pharmacies and dept stores. After hooking it up and trying it out it DID NOT have talking caller ID, nor did it show a name on the display.
I wrote to the Corporate Office Legal Dept. And sent copies of the catalog, brown box it was delivered in, receipt, etc. They did not respond for a long time and when they did they said thier techs checked the phone and it was Talking Caller ID, she said I had to have a special service from my phone company. I went to the phone company and they said I have Caller ID Deluxe with Call waiting and that is all I needed it was the phone not the service. I wrote letters several times, mailed and faxed only to be told the same thing again and then ignored.
