My situation is identical to most listed here at Usa Consumer Complaints.com. This is a report of how I got out of the scam without losing too much money.
I realized the scam near the end of the first day. I fax'd the headquarters that evening cancelling the consultation and told IPA in the FAX that under no curcumstances would I allow any IPA employee access to my property on the next day. The two consultants were staying at a local hotel and due to show up at 9:00AM. They were observed at 7:30AM trying to gain access to my building. At 9:00 I opened the door and told them to leave. They wanted to come in and I would not let them. If they had gotten into my store they would have charged me for another full day of phoney consultation. Later that day they dropped off an invoice for $8,000.00.
I took the invoice and the contract to my lawyer that very day and asked him to make all of this "go away". When I told my lawyer that I had signed a contract that only allows for litigation in Illinois he just laughed. He told me that anyone can sue anyone else for anything and from any court anywhere. We filed a lawsuit from our local court and within days I received full credit for the $8,000.00 invoice plus my $500.00 analysis fee refunded by IPA.
I gave my lawyer the $500.00 and from what I have read about IPA (and lawyers) I think I got off cheap.
Sue them first and sue them from your local court and they will settle!
