I moved from Fort Lauderdale, FL, to Queen Creek, AZ and Cingular Wireless does not have cellular service in the area I moved to. They confirmed that service is not available in my area but refused to allow me to cacel my contract without paying my $175 termination fee.
I have been with Cingular since Feb. 2000 and I have 5 seperate lines of service with them and needed to cancel two of my accouts simply because they can not provide me with service. They told me that my contract is based from the Florida market and they promised to provide me service in that market.
The fact that I moved to a location that does not have cell towers or service is not their fault. They claimed that they are providing me service based on the terms of my contract (Florida) it is unfortunate that I am not there any longer.
I felt like I was being penalized for moving to Arizona. The reason for my move to AZ was because my father had become ill with Alzheimers Disease and my mother needed me close by to assist her. A year and two months ago when I extended my contract I had no intention of leaving Florida. Plus, at that time I had already been a Cingular customer for more than 4 years.
I did not contact Cingular to get out of a contract because of lack of respect to my commitment to the contract I entered, I needed to be released from my contract because Cingular could not provide me with cellular service. I told them it was not fair and reasonable to expect a customer to pay for a service he or she is not receiving. They agreed with this statement but told me it had nothing to do with moving or providing me with cellualr service, it boils down to the fact that I have a two year contract, plain and simple.
