I was with Cingular for a long time (few years). I got my husband to sign up last year before they merged with AT&T. I found out in Dec that they had merged and I went into the store and asked for my service to be canceled. I told them I used to work for AT&T and I hate the way they work and I didn't want to be a part of anypart of AT&T. They said ok.
In Jan I received a bill. I was about to send off payment and then I receive a $600 bill just for disconnection. Why should I have to pay for disconnection when I in no way signed any contract stating I wanted to be a part of AT&T?
Then a week later I get a letter in the mail from a debt collector. I called Cingular and asked why I couldn't make payment plans. Every person I got a hold of told me the computer would not allow it. So I am being charged disconnection fees and $100 for a debt collector fee.
Why would anyone want to be a part of a company that won't even help you give them their money back? I have tried the nice approach and it hasn't worked. I contacted a lawyer who told me that my contract was void after they merged with AT&T. So I must ask again why am I being charged?
My reply to anyone who want to use Cingular is walk away with your money don't leave it to the wolves.
