UPS Doesn't follow it's own policy Ripoff Kettering

I won a very hard to find Motorcycle saddle on eBay. The sender didn't put it in a hard wrap. UPS doesn't generally let items send this way.

When I received the saddle it had 2 small holes with deep indentations in it from something had sat on it.
I called the original owner and asked him about the damage. He stated as he had before I bought it that it was near perfect and no holes were in it.

I then called UPS and they said to put it back in the original wrapper and they would send a driver to pick it up and inspect it.

I called on the 30th of Dec "04", it was picked on Jan 4th "05"

I heard nothing until I called them in mid February. At first they denied picking it up. I had read off my little sticker number to them and they tried to trace it. They told me it went back to the original owner.
I called the original owner and he knew nothing of it.
I called UPS back, but the store it was shipped from in Willowby, Ohio this time. He was more than happy to assist me, unlike UPS headquarters.

He said he would try to run it down and call me back.
He said after it went to about 5 or 6 states it was now in their salvage store where it would now be sold. THey send all their damaged goods there and sell them to recoupe some of their money back.

They must damage a lot of goods to have a store for this purpose.

I told him I wanted it back and they offered me the $30 back I won it for. I explained it was a very hard to find saddle and wanted it back. I would have the repairs done on it myself. He said he didn't think I could get it back. I was persistent.

He asked for a description of the saddle. I told him what it looked like and it was for an 84 Ninja, a sport bike. He would call me back.

He called me back the following day and said he thought they found my saddle and was being shipped to me. I received it on Wednesday the 23rd of March.

It was the wrong saddle. The one they sent me appears to be for a Honda Goldwing. Now what? I am getting ready to call Mike up in Willowby, Ohio to tell him his efforts to combat UPS did not pay off.

After a month of tracking and 3 months after it was originally shipped I am still without a Motorcycle seat.
Ups is generally telling me that's the chance I have to take when shipping and there's nothing I can do about it.
I told them I do a lot of shipping by UPS and would refuse to send or receive anything by them again. They say "Okay".

Big corporations! Especially ones protected by the government. What can one do when he is wronged?
They didn't follow policy by sending it back to the original owner first as it states in the fine print on damaged goods policy.
