Gave us a Christmas Present

Last year, I got a copy of my credit report and found that Palisade Collections was nice enough to 'give' me a christmas present... A negative report saying I owe them $2893.33. What keyed me in that this report to Expertan was a crock was that the date the account was opened was December 25th!

I was able to get a phone number of their Georgia office after searching the internet for about an hour and after placing god knows how many calls to them, finally got to speak to a real living person. The person I spoke with told me that I owe AT&T a large sum of money and that they (Palisade and AT&T) were in the process of garnishing my salery and freezing my bank accounts until I payed up. This individual also informed me that it was due in one lump sum payment. After letting the rep spew out his crap, I asked him how a legitimate account could have been open on Christmas day, a day when 99% of ALL businesses including most of the federal government is shut down.

I was told in not so many words that it was not any of my concern as to how the account was opened on that specific day. Then, I started shooting from the hip and informed this rocket scientist I was speaking to that a) I have NEVER had any type of phone bill in my name, (my wife and I keep the household utilities in her name) and that I would not send them one red cent until I recieved a hard copy of the complete bill along with a copy of the agreement of service I supposedly made with AT&T by US mail.

I was then informed that I was not entitled to a copy! Well, to make what can be a long story short, I decided to write letters to the Big 3 credit reporting agencies. It took almost 7 months, but I finally got this company off my credit report. I think what made it easy in my case was the date the account was opened. This company and all of it's other DBA companies need to be shut down, and AT&T needs to be set straight that they can not do what they are doing.
