I am sending you this because I feel that there are many more people that have been taken advantage of by the Greenville Water System than I know of. I just moved to Simpsonville about two months ago and after about two weeks received my first water bill for the first ten (10) days of water and about choked. They said that I used 51,000 gal. Of water (approx. 2 regular size swimming pools) on my irrigation system in a period of ten days. After notifying them that there has to be something wrong because we only used the irrigation system a few times and that there are no leaks. So they sent someone out and everything checked out o.K. And that they said that the reading was correct. After my wife went around with them 2 or 3 times my wife finally got someone to say that yes that is an unusual amount of water to be used in a ten day period and said they understood that we did not use that much water. They also said that, using our average water consumption, it should be 8500 gal.instead of the 51,000 gal. That they said we used originally. After going back and forth with them they, because of their policies, were only able to adjust our bill to 50% of difference. That means we pay for our average 8500 gal. Usage plus 50% of 42,500 gal. (51,000 - 8500 = 42,500) So in fear of getting a bad credit rating due to this we were forced to pay this bill. O.K. That was kind of minor until I started telling people at work about it and out of approx. 10 people I told about it I ran into 2 other people that had an unusually large bill from Greenville Water System (One of them being almost twice their regular bill).in talking with one of them, he said that with his there was something wrong with his new electronic remote reading device that was recently put on his meter. He thought that there was a mistake in the setup of the ratio of the electronic guage reading the mechanical guage. My meter also has a new electronic metering device.
