These people keep calling me saying that I have an outstanding phone bill with southwestern bell from July 1997. Problems with their claim:
1. Its from Tulsa Oklahoma. I lived in Tulsa only until Jan 1994.
2. The bill is from 1997 so the statute of limitations has run out since its 12 years old.
3. They refuse to send me any documentation of the debt. (probably because they have none).
I have repeatedly asked them to stop calling me. I have sent letters to them stating that I do not wish to hear from them again except for in writing and then only if they can provide the documents I've requested. I filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office in VA today as well as a complaint with the FTC. These people are rude. They threaten legal action if I do not pay them even though they concede every time when I point out that they have NO legal recourse on the debt. With all the other complaints I've read, does anyone have any idea how to file a class action law suit against them for unethical collection practices? Or if we'd even have a case?
