Rip-off! How are these people getting our information?

I received a phone call about 2 weeks ago and was told I was approved for a 0% intrest Mastercard and was told it had a credit limit of $ and I would be able to get cash advances of $500, but would have to authorize a $249 debit from my checking. I told the lady I did not have the funds at the time and she said she would call me back.

So today (Nov. 5th 2004) she called me back. I asked her repeatedly if this was an unsecured Mastercard and she said yes it was. I gave her the information and she put me through a verification call and toward the end of the verification, I heard the words that was similar to a prepaid Mastercard. I asked the lady after the verification if it was prepaid card again she said no.

We hung up and I called back again and the lady I spoke with said it was a benefits package and they would send me a package and I would have to sign a form to send to the bank in order to get my secured credit card. When I confrunted her about it she became angry and stanoffish. I have contacted my bank. How are these people getting our information?

They phoned me at work not at my home number. I suggest that anybody who has been scammed by them also contact Better Business Bureau and the credit reporting agencies, they may (Centurion may) list themselves on your credit report in the event you don't pay them the $249.
