A Phone Scam, Card Co. Saying They Could Lower Interest Rates
Consumer Report

I received a call saying they could offer me low interest rates on my credit card. I pressed #9 to tell them to take my name off of their calling list which is when I had a problem. They needed my debit card number I said that all I wanted was to be taken off of their calling list. I ended up giving them my debt card number and my name. They asked for my last four digits of my social security number but I would not give them that number even though they said it was for security purposes. I never gave out my social security number.

At end of the call I asked them for their company's name, telephone number and supervisor's name. He said that the name of the company was: Pride Member Services. He gave me the following number: 1800-622-7747 which ended up being the number for Mastercard. His supervisor's name was Andy Marshall Ext. 231 and Moose's work no. Was 6865 and his ext. Number was 236 of course when I called the 1 800 number I got Mastercard and I asked for Visa, they gave me a different 1800 number. I called that number and was informed that I had been scammed. They gave me the numbers for Equifax and the other credit card numbers to call about fraudulent problems. I thanked them and promptly went to the bank and reported what had taken place. My debt card was cancelled immediately and an alert placed on my account. I did not give out account numbers or my social security number. I came home and called Equifax, Experium Credit, Credit Bureau Trans Union and The Federal Trade Commission and reported the phone call. They agreed with me that I should notify Bank of America/Visa card although I did not mention this card or give any numbers from my Visa/Bank of America card. I want to do this as an alert so that you are aware of any unusual card purchases.
I will keep a close watch on my bank account but I feel I have put all alert measures into place should they attempt to try identity theft with me. I will know better from this experience not to give out ANY information in the future.
