I was in a remote area with no cell service, so I went to the Tillamook forestry center to use the payphone there. The sign on the payphone stated 50 cents for a 3 minute phone call anywhere in the U.S. I didn't have any change on me, so I used my debit card. I never spoke with anyone, and I was never told that I'd be charged $12.98 per call. I made three calls that were less than one minute each. I expected to be charged 50 cents since that's what was marked on that payphone. I called them today to dispute the charges, and they only offered a one time 20% discount. The rep kept trying to justify the charges, stating that anytime a call is made with operator assistance, there are extra charges and fees. I told her I never spoke with an operator, and a fee of any kind was never mentioned during those three calls.in the end, nothing was resolved. I am trying to dispute the charges through my bank, but doubt anything will come of it.
