I received a wood burning stove as a gift and so I thought it would be great to install it into my basement. Because my basement is usually 10-15 degrees colder than the upstairs.
I went online and found Mr. Little's business website Chimney Works. I called the number and he claimed that I needed to give him $100 for an in home estimate on how much it would cost in order for him to install the stove in the basement.
He came to my house hours after I contacted him. He stated that he could EASILY get the job done for $1200.00. He took my $100 cash for the estimate and left. I called him again and he FORGOT what it was that he had quoted and that he needed to come out again to see what job I was talking about.
Mr. Little came out a second time to take a look at where I wanted the stove installed and he said "Oh, that's going to be hard to do for $1,200. I must have been feeling nice that day. I'll try to get some pieces of piping from other jobs and I'll make it work. Because it's going to be impossible to do it for $1,200 with brand new piping."
Ok. That's a little weird but I still gave him a check for $600 for the down payment and off he went. He scheduled a certain time and day to come out... And never showed. He called the next day saying he was "stuck" in East Tennessee doing some work for his dad.
I had a trip I had planned. So I told him I would call to reschedule when I got back from my trip. While I was gone from my trip. The wood burning stove was stolen out from under my car port. So there I was with no stove.
I called Mr. Little and informed him that I would no longer need his services as I did not have a stove to install any longer. He told me to get another stove. Because he didn't have my $600 to give back to me.
I told him the stove was a gift and that I could not afford to get a new stove and he told me that that wasn't his problem. Because he had already bought all the piping and. Could not give my money back to me... Well." I might be able to get it back to you by the end of February"
Time has passed. And I have not received a dime of my money back... And it's been months. He won't even answer the telephone and he's made it a point to make sure his personal address is not available online.
P.S. All the while I was VERY pregnant and I've actually had the baby in the midst of this ripoff... And in addition to him being ok with ripping off pregnant ladies. He also knew that the very basement I was installing the stove in was the same basement that 1 year ago a drunk driver PARKED their car in... So he was REALLY ok with ripping off people that have been through some crap
