I love my new Vermont Castings Non cat Defiant wood stove. I have it in the basement, which may not be the best location for a wood stove, but that was where I had a flue to connect to the chimney. Our house is 2400 sq ft and its heats the basement up to 78 degrees and the first floor up to 74 degrees. The second floor gets up to 70 at times but I do like it cooler in the bedroom for sleeping. I can actually heat my entire house with this stove. The outside temps have been as low as 15 degrees here in Pennsylvania. It is easy to keep the fire going. The burn times per the manufacturer are up to 14 hours. I have not had the fire go out unless I intentionally allowed it to. It takes up to 24 inch length logs which is nice.
I have an exterior clay flue lined chimney which works great. I had read that draft problems are associated with outside chimney without insulated liners but I have not had any back drafts.
