I went on Orbitz - and set up a car rental - picking up a (midsize) car on 8/3 at Las Vegas and planning to drop it off in San Francisco on 8/8. It seemed like Fox Rent A Car had very reasonable rates, so I booked a car with them (for $189.96 when I booked it). So on 8/3 I flew to LV and went to the counter at Fox Rent A Car (btw, it takes 2 shuttles to get to their place) and the guy said I am eligible for a "free upgrade" (to a Mustang convertible). So I said "great" and took the car, drove it for the 5 days and then dropped it off near SF airport on the evening of 8/8. Today (8/16) I was looking at my recent charges on my Amex card and I see a charge for $499. From Fox Rent A Car so I am going to dispute the amount. I feel like I have been ripped off - but I have not done enough research yet to be able to say how/why. But when you set up a 5 day car rental for $189 on Orbitz and then the final bill comes in at $499 then something is definitely wrong (when you followed the actual rental as per the reservation) My only deviation from the reservation was the "free upgrade" to a Mustang.
