Feb 9 I purchased a brand new Kenmore Range and an extended service warranty. Feb 19, a sears technician came to my house (2 weeks AFTER I called them, still within the first year) and replaced a defective burner control module because the burner would not turn off like it should. I had to wiggle the knob to get it to turn off. On that date I wrote a check for $253.00 for what I was told was a new THREE year warranty. I called on July 27 because I am getting a "burning wire smell" from the back of my range when I use that burner. They told me that my stove is no longer under warranty. It expired Feb 9. They also told me that I paid for the repair that was done on Feb 19 and purchased a one year warranty. Since I got no where with the warranty people on the phone, I took the back off of the stove and looked for melted wires. I found three areas around electrical leads with charred insulation. My stove has been catching fire!!! I have sent 4 emails in two days through the corporate website to various departments and NO ONE has responded. PLEASE HELP! I have no range and since I am unemployed but ineligible for unemployment, I have no money to go out and purchase another stove. I really think I am being fair. All I want is another of the same range. I think I just got a defective range. I even asked my local store (where I purchased this one) if they had a decent range that they had removed from a customer's home when they delivered a new one, could they would let me have. I would go pick it up. They told me no.
