Two years ago I purchased a hot water heater from Sears. Last month I noticed water pooled around it and decided to call Sears to schedule a service call. I was informed by the representative that they don’t do service calls on leaky hot water heaters but they could replace it ‘free of charge’ all I would need to do is pay $410 for installation. The hot water heater was installed the following week. After it was installed, the installer came upstairs and told me “the hot water heater was working fine, it’s your furnace that’s leaking. I replaced the water heater anyway.” What type of professional replaces something that wasn’t broken? I felt lied to by the installer and am shocked that Sears has chosen to stand by them and not feel at all responsible for the extortion that just took place.
