My name is Mary Williams I am Deaf. I am 65 years old & I take medications for my lungs. I said that to say this. March 29th @ 8:15pm police officer Rodrigus i.D.#485 and another male police officer stopped me right by my house. She said I was speeding. I gave her my license & state farm insurance cards. I told her 3 times I was having a hard time breathing and needed to get my medication from the trunk. I was coughing and wheeling and gasping for breath. I also informed her that I am Deaf & that I read lips. Coded #88 on my drivers licence. My nose started running which made breathing painful in my chest! 10 mins went by before she let me know I had given her a old insurance card. It took me 2-3mins to find the right one. Laying over the steering wheel i thought i had passed out. I asked again to let me get my medication from the trunk of the car. Again they refused. I had turned on the lights inside of the car so her seeing me was not a problem but reading her lips was a problem for me cause I could not see her face. I asked her to lower the light so I could see what she was saying. She refused to allow me to read what she was saying. There was a officer standing behind her he also heard me. He stood back legs apart with his thumbs tucked in front of his pants and blank expression on his face looking at me he said nothing. Again I asked to get my medication. They refused and they both walked away knowing I could not breath! FEAR made me stay in the car that he would shoot me! I even asked them would they get it for me that I had just left Wal-Mart pharmacy from picking up the medications. I could have make it home in time to take it. Well it was 9:30pm when I got in my home. My sister Gearldine Gant had to help with my treatments all night long. I was forced to sit there coughing, gasping and wheeling trying to breath her only concern was giving me a ticket that it took her 30 min's to write!
What they did was WRONG they used the power of the badge to make me sit in my car and suffer like that! I am a mother, grandmother & great grandmother of 15. I am a Professional Youth motivational speaker with Chicago Police Missing Person Section and "We Care" Role Model 1990- 2011. I worked for CPS before moving to University Park IL. This is not about a ticket they had no rights to refuse to let me take the medications that without it could cause my death. I am also sending a fax that can prove i was not in the wrong.
