My Husband and i found a baby blue jay that had fallen from a high tree. I called a pet store to ask for help on what to do and they said i could feed it baby bird food, but the best thing would to be to call the SPCA animal rescue, especially if it was injured. We bought the food and called the SPCA emergency line. The dispatch said that they were very busy, but that she'd dispatch it right away. 6 hours later, i called again, and again said the baby blue jay is in need of medical treatment. I am not a vet, so all i could do was feed the poor thing. The left eye was injured and so was the right leg. Under the beak on the neck was another injury. I told dispatch to please get someone out soon because it does have a chance for survival if given the right treatment. The dispatch said it is by who is most in need, but i feel that the bird was in desperate need and i told them so. He needed medical care and in their neglect of coming to rescue him, he died this morning. Despite the fact that i kept him warm and fed what i could, he still died. He did have a chance to survive if he was given the chance, but he wasn't. I am an animal lover, i have rescued dogs and cats. This was my first bird and it was sad. I cried, even though i did do what i could. I feel that ALL animals should be treated with the same respect. The last time i called about an injured dog, (dogs hind leg was hanging literally off) they came within an hour and they were busy then, but when i called about a baby blue jay, they neglect to come and give him the treatment needed. It seems that the world is going because people don't care about the little things, like a baby blue jay, which can make a difference in this world if he was given the chance. Already our Bold Eagles are almost extinct. What if i had an injured one and they neglected to come, that would have been one less. The SPCA promised to come and they never did. Because of medical neglect, the baby Blue jay died.
