The situation happened at least a year and half ago so the date is not clear. However, I am a young college student. I started my first good paying job and I needed somewhere to keep all of the money, so I figured, why not get a bank account. I was moving soon so I needed a bank where I could withdraw and deposit mney from any location in the US. I saw opportunity with Woodforest National Bank. However, just as soon as my account begin to add up, it begin to add up... Negatively. I was issued a debit card and everyday I would go to the atm and check my balance. One day, I noticed I had a negative balance on it and I went into the bank to figure out why. Although, the account is in my name, the staff would not give me any information. They kept constantly telling me they could not reveal such information and I couldn't figure out why when it was my account. So I simply told them I would like my account closed and so on. A week later, I received a letter in the mail from Woodforest saying I owe them six hundred and something dollars. I have been trying to dispute it. But they turned me in to Chex Systems and now I cannot open an account anywhere. Not to say that it has done some damage to my credit. Again, it was my first and only bank account and I am just 20 years old, and this is the type of service I get. Not a good first impression. Someone please tell me how I can dispute this and get my credit back as well as a bank account somewhere else.
