Putnam Valley Petroleum had the worst customer service not to mention cost $0.45 more a gallon then their competitors! I was only a customer for 5 months and 3 deliveries - within that time I had many issues with them. It started with their “assessment” of my brand new oil tank. They gave me a 4 hour window of when they’d arrive (meanwhile, other companies in the area don’t find assessments even necessary) and NEVER SHOWED. I had a show in NYC that I was late for. Finally in the last hour I called them and they rescheduled on me - a good company would’ve come that day after making someone wait that long! I of course had to waste another one of my days on a “4 hour window”. Several different issues later - I then had the biggest one. I originally found them through a third party company, HeatUSA (I have absolutely no problems with HeatUSA). Last week I called Putnam Valley Oil and told them I wanted to cancel - they told me I needed to call HeatUSA to cancel since I got the contract through them. Fine. I called HeatUSA telling them I was calling back to officially cancel the next day. The next day I called to cancel as promised and when I got home Putnam Valley DELIVERED oil! Most important point - they came 2 weeks earlier and 60 gallons earlier than the last two times. Their excuse is they need to feel out how much oil the customer needs, but why the two other times they delivered did they deliver 6 weeks apart and 170-180 gallons instead of 4 weeks apart at 120 gallons? Because they knew I was cancelling and wanted to bang money out of us once more. Every new oil company I called and told this to said this was a common scam bad oil companies pull. When I told Putnam Valley Petroleum I wanted them to pump it out or them to reduce the cost to the $0.45/gallon less I was getting from the new company, they not only refused but DIDN’T EVEN CALL ME THEMSELVES! I wouldn’t have as much of a problem paying over $100 more a fill if customer service actually came with the price. Any contact since this started last week has been given to my third party company by them. Why would an owner of a company not even have the decency to call their own customer? Because in their words “they weren’t budging and knew it would be an argument”. So basically, they acted like children and walked away from their problem and past it onto someone else that had NO involvement in their premature delivery or any other issue I’ve had over the past 5 months with them. I didn’t want this bill going to a collection agency and affecting my credit report, so I’m begrudgingly paying them the money with a copy of this letter that I’m sending to the BBB, Consumer Affairs and any other company where customers can be warned. But I wanted to share my experience because if someone had told me about this company’s poor customer service and overpriced oil, I would’ve never gotten involved and saved myself a huge headache and lots of money.
