On 9/27/05 my in-laws told me that they had just ordered oil through our regular delivery guy at $2.44 per gallon I though that was high and since I had just gotten a pamphlet over the weekend at BJ's about discount oil deliveries I though I should order soon in case the prices go higher
So I went onto the website registered and ordered a delivery of oil I requested a fill up on the tank because I do not know exactly how many gallons it will take to fill the tank the little bar thing is a little below half. The website says I can order the oil at $2.41 a gal guaranteed delivery within 3 business days - The day I placed the order was a Tuesday
I checked the order invoice on thursday it says my delivery is scheduled for that day 9/29 By 5:00 I don't have the delivery so I call the customer service line and they tell me to give it another day since the delivery is within 3 business days. Friday comes still no oil I go to work on Saturday and call the customer service line again and inform them that I still did not get my oil and wanted to cancel the order she informs me she cannot do that because she has no authority to cancel the order I explained to her that I was now suspicious and didn't want to get rippedoff she said the only thing she could do was call a supervisor at home I said no don't I ll call again Monday
I get home at 12:30 to get ready for a wedding at about 2 I hear the oil truck and go check my tank and it is full on sunday I go online to check the invoice to see how much in total was going to be charged to my credit card and the invoice says my bill is $353.00 for 118 gallons I was absolutely floored. Because my tank required less than 150 gallons to fill they charge me $2.99 a gallon and a $50.00 service fee
On Monday I call the customer service and ask for an explanation to why I was basically charge $3.53 a gallon for oil that is supposed to be 20% cheaper than the norm they said because I got less than 150 gallons I explained my tank does not have a digital readout to tell me how much oil I need and that is why I opted for the fill up also I ordered now instead of later because I was concerned about the price per gallon going up They said it was on the website I should have noticed it before I placed my order again I said there was no way for me to know I only needed 118 gallons also the pamphlet stated delivery is guaranteed within 3 business days and mine did not come until sat the least you can do is remove the $50 service fee she says the only thing I can do is take $50 of your next order I said are you nuts you think I would ever order through this website again
I said as a BJ's member I am supposed to pay less not more she said you are not registered as a BJ's member I said I am registered I have been a member for 11 years she said you didn't register as a BJ's member your supposed to click on the button that says BJ's members enter here I said to her I didn't realize that because I thought the entire site was just for BJ's members she said no I told her to cancel my membership and she did
On Monday I checked my mail and found the slip the oil guy left and it was dated for Friday 9/30 - what a lie they didn't come intil 10/1 - I got screwed I won't do that again but my concern is for the elderly people who shop at BJ's and think they will be getting a good deal and get screwed because the website is misleading, someone who budgets for heating oil. I am considering writing to the Attorney Generals Office
