Home Depot Credit Card abuses late charge practices

Let me begin by stating it is never a good idea to use a department or in-store credit card (such as Home Depot), due to the high interest rates.
I simply used it this one time for a quick office repair item.
I have never been late on these type of credit cards due dates. Somehow, due to a technical issue, the payment I attempted to post before the due date of January 19, did transact on Home Depot's credit card site (Myhomedepotaccount.com).
On the 25th, I was checking the statement and noticed the payment was not made and now a late charge of $20 was imposed.
I promptly made a payment for past due, and called their customer service. The Home Depot Credit Card representatives were very hostile and stated, "We cannot do anything since you made the payment over 5 days past the due date. Since your payment was on the 25th, that is 6 days late." The rude reps I had the pleasure of speaking with were: Anyssa (customer service agent), Vicki (manager), Kip (manager)... The list goes on.
I went ahead and paid off the balance (minus the late charge), and asked if they would still be able to do something about removing the $20 (more out of principle at this time). The answer is still "no", and all of the managers I spoke with claim no one has the ability to override this feature.
I strongly recommend not using Home Depot Credit Cards for anything.
