I am a regular shopper at Goodwil, I went to shop at the Jonestown road location on Monday Aug-11-08. I spotted a futon bed outside the drop off spot and went over and asked the guy working, if he could price the Futon for me or give me a time in which it would be available for purchase? He was very polite and told me mam I have to make my way to that item and will try to get it out on the floor soon for you and at a good price. The amount was not a concern. I wanted it for a 16 year old girl who has no bed and is living in poverty. I waited a while and returned. I did not see the guy, so I went in to speak to the cashier, she was short with me and said, he can't tell you when mam because it has to come thru the store first. I said o. K and preceeded to the back of the store to ask a manager or a stock person, a Mgr came to the door and shut it in my face, as if I were't even there. So I left and went back to the side door to see if I could see the guy again, the young cashier was back there talking to him as well as the mgr. I was not at all intending to get him in any trouble, I was just gonna ask when I should come back. Again he was polite and told me to come back later in the evening. Which was fine so I left. About 6 pm I called the store, the same young girl answered the phone and put me on hold, I waited patiently she came back and said its on the floor its $40 dollars mam" I quickly hurried my husband up and we went as quickly as possible to that location with his truck, this 16 year old has been sleeping on the floor on a few spreads for months now we were worried her needs. We were so excited to have the oppurtunity to be the first to respond at the store for this product. When we got there, I immedily got into line and told my husband to go get the ticket off of it as I would need it to make the purchase. He then said come here honey and see this. I went to the bed as he showed me the frame had been broken and had been clamped back together in the middle and the mattress had a tear. This still did not matter if the bed would fold and would work for this child. I went to the counter. The young cashier quickly said mam I can't sell you the futon with the matress as it was not supposed to be with it. I said I don't understand as she had already told me the manager had priced it. She went out of her way to NOT sell me this item. She was almost persistant and adament to descriminate against me how she responded to me was horrible I will keep an out who does purchase this item and I will get it on camera if the purchaser is able to buy it with the mattress as I feel this will be a lawsuit and I was descriminated against and will not shop with Goodwill ever again as this cashier and the manager showed me my color which is white is not welcome
