Security deposit, carpet replacement rip off!

August 27th we left our lease property on long Island ny, in order to ensure that we received full return of our security deposit, we complied with the terms and conditions of the lease in every detail, however fairfield properties refuse to complete a walk through to show that we complied with the terms and conditions of the lease, in fact on return of the gated code cards and the garage door opener to the rental agent, she would not sign a receipt to say we had returned them, of course alarm bells went off! My wife and I are both retired, no children... 10 years we had leased this property, neither of us smoke and are very house proud, in this time the berber carpet was kept in pristine condition along with all aspects of the property.
After 6 years they replaced the carpet on the ground floor, as there was a leaK in the wall that damaged the carpet, the second floor was never replaced, so when we ended our lease this was 10 YEARS OLD, in fact the carpet on the ground floor was saturated at the patio door area after 8 years due to leakage at the skylights, the rear wall to the living room was peeling and deteriating because of this leak, despite reporting this on several occassions this was never rectified. On leaving the property we had the carpets shampooed, took photographs of the complete apartment and had the resident superintendant inspect the property and HAD HIM SIGN a STATEMENT stating the property in its entirety was left in pristine condition, at that time he told me that fairfield Properties had a habit of charging tenants to replace the carpeting, no matter what condition the residence was left in. We felt pretty secure in the fact we had a written statement from the resident superintendant and photographs to back up our claim in case of a charge against our security deposit. Never the less we received our security deposit less charges of $1209 to replace carpeting and $75 to replace a garage remote that was returned to the rental agent on leaving.
This leaves us infuriated, after 10 years of residence, never late with our lease payments, taking excellent care of the property and they have the ordacity to treat people like this, Sure there are people that have abused there lease and rightfully so are charged back! However more disturbingly are those that have been charged under false claims, this is tant amount to stealing, They might as well be bank robbers as it is no less a crime, This has to be stopped, some attorney with a conscience must take up this cause, after all isnt this liberty and justice for all? I would be interested if others found themselves in the same situation, perhaps a class action lawsuit could be started, in any event I am taking action on my own, armed with signed statements and photographs, if any attorney wants to speak to me, my number is with this web page,
