National Affidavit Processing Center
Naps

Around the end of June I began receiving calls on my cell phone from what appeared to be an international telephone number. I sent the calls to voicemail, and finally a gentleman with a thick Indian accent left a message asking for me by first and middle name. He said that he had a "serious legal matter" to discuss with me.

I waited for him to call back and I answered when he called on July 20. He identified himself as John Wright from National Affidavit Processing Center and said that he was calling in regard to an outstanding payday loan. I informed him that I only had only taken out one such loan and that was paid in full on February 20 of this year. He went on to tell me that even though the loan was paid, I would need to pay an additional $123 to close out the file. He then went on to ask me for my bank information, and I immediately denied to give it to him.

I asked him why I needed to pay an additional $123 to close a file on a debt that was paid in full five months ago. And I also asked why I was never advised about this fee before. The gentleman became impatient and kept asking for my bank information. I finally told him that I would not give my bank information over the phone and I asked if he could give me something in writing to explain this "closing fee." After emailing me a Word document that threatened to charge me with "Violation of Collateral Check Fraud", "Violation of Federal Banking Regulations" and "Theft By Deception" if I did not pay this fee, he proceeded to call me another 8 times in a 3-hour period. I also noticed that the name on the email was Eric Johnson.

I then contacted the Federal Trade Commission to file a complaint against this company, and replied to the email asking him not to call me anymore unless he can show me something in writing that explains this "closing fee" and why I have never been advised of it before. I have not received any further calls or emails today.
