When placing orders for Christmas, one of the companies I used was Lillian Vernon. The following month I noticed a $1.95 charge and a $14.95 charge on my credit card. As I had had several backorders, I assumed that these charges were for some of the backorders.
The next few months I noted $14.95 charges on my card statement but I did not take the time to research them.
In July there were two charges for $14.95 on my card statement so I called the 800 number provided and found that I had supposedly signed up for the Lillian Vernon Rewards Program. I asked what this wonderful program gave me and what was my balance in my account as I had made additional purchases from Lillian Vernon. I was told that there was no "account" so I had no balance. The only reward that I could accertain was the grand opportunity to continue to buy from Lillian Vernon and to continue to pay them $14.95 per month for as long as I remained stupid.
I advised the female that I was speaking to that I wanted a refund of the $106.60 that they had taken from my credit card account. She hung up on me.
I have filed a fomal complaint with my credit card company and will receive a portion of those charges back but not all. Stupid can be expensive.
It is a shame for a once fine company to stoop to such unethical practices. They will probably wonder why no one continues to order from them.
