We have carried a Sears card since 1984, never having any issues.
Unfortunatelly, our problems started when Sears sold out the financing:
Our first issue was with a $100.00 payment made at the Greensboro, NC store, which was credited to our account as $1000.00. We called and reported it - long story short: WE spent almost a year trying to prove that we had not paid $1000.00, but only $100.00!
Then, in March we notice charges for this Account Care... That is when it really got bad. Calls, written requests, all ignored. The primary on the account is actually my father, who had authorized me to deal with them. After many unpleasant conversations with "customer no-service", they insisted on talking to him directly. That took place in October, when we also were asked to fax a written request for cancellation of this service never requested, nor authorized by anyone in our household.
It is now July and my last phone 3 phone calls took place this morning: our Sears account does not have a balance, but we are still charged interest on the AccountCare charges that appear every month!
When asking for a fax number to re-fax the letter, I was informed that none was available and that they did not recognize the number used in Oct/08, nor did they have any record of having spoken to the primary - Suprised? We are not!
I then asked for a physical address, in order to send the letter via UPS and have proof that it was received by them. The response was that unfortunatelly all they had was a P.O. Box number. Even the Sears employees have agreed that this company makes it impossible to cancel the service and that we are not the only customer to complain. We are seriously considering cancelling our Sears account after over 20 years.
Beware! They will steal from you and hurt your credit!!
