Received a call from Telecheck and Check Collection of America that I wrote a NSF check to Steakhouse Distributors for $140.00 back in April. I told them that Steakhouse Distributors was incorrect in reporting that check was NSF. I Stopped Payment on that check when Steakhouse Distributors did not give the correct amount of steaks that was promised for the amount I paid. I asked Telecheck and Check Collection of America if they had a copy of the check in their file? They said no they did not. I asked how could they put me in collection without getting their facts straight. Is it not their responsibility to document the facts before reporting information incorrectly. They told me it is my responsibility to prove I did not write a NSF check. I think this is horrible and unjust. Anyone can report someone as writing a NSF check and these companies will go after you and put a bad code against your name so you can't write checks till it is cleared up.
